My '99 protege has died recently and i can't find the cause of it. Its only sparking on the initial turn of the motor, every crank after that it doesn't spark. It will only spark if the key is returned to off after cranking, if its returned to on or acc it wont spark again. After reading plenty of forums about no spark conditions (there are none for one spark) i replaced the ecu, crank and cam position sensors, cleanee the MAF sensor and had an auto sparky look at it and nothing has changed it. The auto sparky left saying "its weird, i dont know why it would do that". I can't get an OBD reader to work with it either. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have never been able to get an OBD to work on an older Mazda since that system is dedicated to Mazda and requires a dealer reader.
If I was working on that car I would suspect the ignition switch and that only takes about 15-20 minutes and is easy to replace.
