Default Initial start up of replacement engine

Hello : New member here with 1st post , I picked up a replacement engine from a salvage yard for my 2001 626. I had a mechanic replace the timing belt and water pump. I don't know how long it's been sitting since it has been started but I am seeking advice on what should I do as far as any lubrication inside the cylinders before initial starting the Engine. Thanks

Can you hand crank the engine? If so, all I'd do would be to pull the plug wires, engage the starter for say fifteen seconds to push oil through the galleries, put the plug wires back on and fire her up.

If hand cranking the engine is very difficult, I'd put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder and hand crank until it frees up a bit.

I am going to change the plugs so I will have access to each cylinder, I will have to sort of hand crank it anyway in order to line up the flywheel with the torque converter

I just realized I bought a 2001 Engine for a 2002 model 626, Can someone help me determine if the 01 Engine will work without modification in my 02.

Should be fine. Since you don't know how long it sat, I would put a shot of lubricating oil in each cylinder weather you can rotate it easily or not. This will keep the rings from dragging thru a dry cylinder. Marvel Mystery Oil is my preferred choice. If you have a small oil squirt can, fill that up and give each cylinder a few shots to start and then a shot or two as your rotating it around for the torque convertor bolts. She'll smoke big time on the first start up but should cease once it's warmed up and won't damage the cat.
