No fuel pump power to pump 1990 Protege SE
Could someone give some help on wiring? The problem is I don't have power to the fuel pump.
I purchased a low mileage Protege' 4D SE for my nephew.
I followed the Haynes manual for diagnosis. We changed the pump and cleaned the tank.
Haynes says GND crossed to F/P should activate the pump at the diagnostic.
FI relay is working and sends power to the FP relay. I tested the FP relay per the instructions and it tests good.
From what I can tell FP Relay white/red stripe is battery; Black/Purple is FP power.
Purple is switched source. Black is ground for the coil. Lt Green I don't know.
Black purple wire passed continuity. From pump to wiring connector has continuity.
Pulled pump and jumped from battery to pump. Pump ran fine.
I tried jumping white/red to FP Black purple. Pump doesn't run.
I ran a jumper from white red to connector bypassing majority of power wiring. Pump won't run.
I ran a jumper from battery to back seat with pump out of the hole. Pump won't run.
The replacement pump is a carter brand with yellow black wires. I connected yellow to the black/purple and black and black.
I thought of changing out the relay to a more common Bosch style but I'm not positive of the wiring nor the amperage of the oem relay.
I don't understand how the pump could work near the battery but not at the back of car. My only thought is the wire is too small for the length and the voltage drop was too high.
The only reason for the voltage loss would be a broken wire which is why I bypassed the wiring.
Thanks for any help
