so i got a 03protege speed and i got a prob. see if i get on it alil bit and then when i let off
the rpms willjust drop andthe car will die... the check eng. light will come on and my bat. light but thats it not the oil light or anything just dies. also someties if i get on it it just wont go my foot will be on thefloor andthe turbo will turn u hear itbut it just wont go... anyone???? i was on someother forums and no one knew...im kinda on my last leg with this car to but i just like it to much to get somethng diff. but let me know

 

Could be alot of things. The most likely possibilities i can think of offhand are restricted exhaust (bang on the bottom of the catilytic converter and see if it rattles like somethings loose inside)/dirty fuel filter/dirty throttlebody/dirty MAF hotwire/dirty injectors ( Techron works best for this/also decarbons the engine)/worn out coil and fuel pump. Just things to check. It's impossible to know without the car in front of me so you have to do the inspections and hopefully will learn a bit along the way.Run it by an Autozone and they can scan the PCM for codes free.

I have been having the same sort of issues with my speed protege, after quickly slowing down the engine will cut off, battery light come on, no check engine light comes on. I've replaced the Mass Airflow sensor, and O2 sensor, neither has helped.I was thinking something like a vaccum leak, bad idle control valve, or dirty egr valve.It's barely running, it will cut off just idling now, and all the places i've taken it to, including a mazdaspeed dealership can't tell me what's wrong.Please help before I lose my mind.

 

They do have a problem with carbon buildup in the EGR valve. Remove the EGR valve,disasemble and clean the carbon out of it.
