Mazda protage 2001 misfire and smoke from engine bay
Hi all. Have mazda premacy which is basically a protage. Anyway it's 2001.
for some time it now it's had a random engine problem where it just stalls at lights or basically runs on 2 cylenders as I found out a few days ago.
discovered 1 ignition coil is dying when it gets hot. When cold it's fine. (Have ordered new ones)
I needed to go into town today and was all good on way in but on way back it missed again. So I limped it home....prob not best idea but anyway. When I was getting near home I could smell something bad.....not so much oil burning...was more of a weired smell...(like glue melting)
when got home (drove like 4 kilometer all up) there was heaps! Of white smoke comming from engine bay...down back area but as said it smelt bad...not oil...just bad!
at that point I'm thinking I have just blew engine up. But after 30 min it started fine and no more smoke etc just really rich smell (can hear it miss every now and then)
I just got under car and had a look...engine looks good...no issues...however I did see the knock sensor had heaps of melted goo running down all way to bottom of engine. And made me wonder if this was the smell of the smoke as like I said it smelt bad...kind of a burning glue smell. (Heaps! Of smoke though)
I know they can melt over time but could it have melted and over heated this quick due to miss fire?
engine was running at normal temp aswell
sorry for long post

(1) Replace both of the ignition coils.
(2) Start it up go for a drive around town,
(3) Get it scanned for codes and see what comes up. ( Codes can be stored without the engine light coming on )
