Mazda Z5-DE - Long Start
Hello !
I just bought mazda Protege / 323 . It has 1.5 Z5-DE Motor in it.
When car has stood still for sometime, first start is quite long, like 3-5 seconds.
If you shut it, and start again it will fire up normally. What might be the problem ?

Possible failure of the fuel return valve in the fuel pump assembly.
Hook up a inline fuel pressure gauge, start it up, let it idle, record the fuel pressure, turn it off come back every 1/2 hr or so and see if the fuel pressure drops off over time.
