smoke from engine, detailed description
i have a 95 millenia s. there is a light white smoke coming from the back left area (when lookin at from front) of engine. the smoke is on and off. there will be no smoke for a while then smoke for a few minutes. the smoke smells like burning rubber most of the time but every so often smells like burning oil. not sure what to check for i've snooped around and found nothing burning or any oil leaks. any ideas from anybody on what to check?

RE: smoke from engine, detailed description
In general......out the exhaust pipe
White smoke: Coolant (head gaskets?, somehow liquid is getting into the combustion chamber)
Blue smoke: Oil (valve seals, head gaskets, again, oil is getting into the combustion chamber)
Black smoke: Gasoline (running rich)
Now if you're looking under the hood, maybe have someone in the car to rev it up a little to get the drip going. make sure there aren't any hoses touching the exhaust (burning rubber). If the smoke is white and not bluish, then it's most likely coolant.
If you find an oil leak. Trans fluid is red, regular oil is brownish...
