Default Loss of power lower RPM, Code said bad EGR vacuum Solenoid

Howdy! I have a 2002 Protege 5spd. Code reader said P1512 and elaborated that the EGR vacuum solenoid was bad. Whenever I am in 1st and second gear it usually happens as I am in lower RPM's. What happens is that I get random loss of power where I will push on the gas pedal and it will not generate any power whatsoever, and it will surge sort of. But then it will regain power and start going again. It felt like a bad fuel pump but it revs fun in neutral all the time and at higher rpm's and above 3rd gear I run into no issues. I ran the codes with the OBD2 code reader and was told it was a EGR vacuum solenoid gone bad. Was wondering if this is a common or known problem that others have run into. I bought a new solenoid and plan on replacing it, but does anyone know if it is something else based on that description?
