Default Code 1526 ABV Vacuum Solenoid

This is the code I'm getting on my mom's '98 millenia s. I'm pretty decent with tools--Is this something I can order and replace myself or should I take it to the dealer.

Thanks,
Brian

It is repairable by yourself but make sure of the code # first. A 1526 is indicating a fault in the ABV vent solenoid and not the vacuum solenoid. Vacuum solenoid would set a 1525.

First drawing below shows the location of the solenoid at the back of the engine near the firewall. It is the only solenoid back there that will have 3 vacuum lines to it as is shown in the 2nd drawing. Wire colors to it should be Green w/ black stripe and Red w/ black stripe.
In order to test the solenoid for correct operation you will probably want to remove it. With no voltage applied to it, air should be able to pass between ports A-B, A-C, and B-C. With battery and ground applied as shown in the last drawing, air should only be able to pass between ports A-B. Other ports should all be blocked. You should also hear a click noise when applying voltage to the solenoid.

Not sure why first drawing came up so bad but cleared up fine when screen resolution was turned up to 1280 X 1024 pixels.

Babyhuey:

Just bought a 01S. Have a loud hiss then click at about a 1-per-second rate at low RPMs at what I believe is the vacuum solenoid in rear passenger side of engine compartment. TCS light flashes at low RPMs too, then goes away once I accelerate from a light, etc. Eventually will switch to TCS OFF after a while of driving.
Dealer said this is a common problem but will cost me about $275 to have it fixed. By the way... no CEL was thrown.

Side note: when goign down a hill, off the gas,RPMs spike between 1000 and 1500 at about a 1-per-second frequency. Is this related?

Thanks,
Anthony
