Default Idle speed question

Hello all Mazda guys

I tried search answer for my question but all what i can find is problems with idle speed.

My question is what is "normal" idle speed for Mazda familia -95 1,5 Z5
When motor is cold (-10C)

Earlier my idle speed was about 2100-2300 when motor was cold and after 1min or 2 it dropped to 1600-1700 rpm and when motor was warmed up it dropped to normal idle speed 750rpm

Now my idle speed is 1600rpm when motor is cold and when its warmed up it drops to normal idle speed 750rpm

The change happened after all this: https://www.mazdaforum.com/forum/maz...protege-33259/

my idle speed was and it is good and stable.

i tried fix this issue now later by adjusting idle speed to 750RPM using jump wire and idle air screw but no changes so im thinkig if this current cold motor idle speed is right?

I think it is right. There is always a range for the idle speed. In most cases 700 to 800 would be considered normal. The key is your idle at operating temperature is steady and low enough.

And this compares very close to the behavior of my minivan: "Earlier my idle speed was about 2100-2300 when motor was cold and after 1min or 2 it dropped to 1600-1700 rpm and when motor was warmed up it dropped to normal idle speed 750rpm"
When it is really cold my minivan will idle at 2500 for about a minute, then step down in the same pattern as yours.

My Prote runs great and the cold idle speed has ALWAYS been around 1800 RPM even at 0 degress F. It has never been above 2000 RPM. After about two minutes it drops to 1500 RPM and then gradually goes down to 750 when the engine is warmed up. If your car was my car I would not worry about it.

Default Don't like high RPM's either.

I know that this thread is a little bit old, but let me try. About that idle at 1800RPM when engine is cold I wonder is there is a way to lower down RPM's faster when the engine is cold, every time I start the engine for a few seconds sound like dry and with only 83,000 miles that suck. I heard a LOT of problems with the Protege 2.0 liter with less than 80 or 90,000 miles with valve guides and blown engines, even with me that I change my oil every 2,500 miles and I don't race or make burn outs. I think that with the engine very cold is not safe having that high RPM's. Is just my Thought.
