I am so happy that I found this forum. I had to laugh at the duct tape on the hose, because my hose is bright orange. Since I bought my car the engine has always made noises. I thought it was nothing, but now I have the super slow acceleration, and the dropping idling. My car has 196,000 + miles on it, and has been very good to me for the 3 years I've had it. I knew about the cracks in the intake hose, but I did not know about the quirk with the ignition coils.
Another common quirk and often overlooked is the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the EGR boost sensor. The nipple onto which the hose is clamped get clogged with carbon deposits. Scrape it out with a wire. Replace the vacuum hose because its end gets hard and will not seal very well.

On another topic. My Speedometer is not working. It started not working sporatically and now it doesn't work at all. Any advise where to start looking?

I haven't had this problem since my '68 VW beetle. It had a cable for the speedo that wore out.
I suggest you progress from cheap fix to more costly ones to save $$.
Your car may have a cable from the trans axle to the speedo (inspect and replace if needed) or it has a vehicle speed sensor or wheel sensors that tell the computer how fast they spin. Find those sensors, inspect and clean them and put them back in place. If it doesn't fix it, look at connections to the instrument panel and computer. Don't forget the ground connection. Finally replace questionable sensors.
Since you only mention the speedo failing, I assume the rest is working all right. That leads me to suspect one of the sensors or connection to it is bad.
