Clutch going at 84,000 kms?
My A/C wasn't as cold as it used to be, so I took it into Mazda to have the A/C refrigerant vacuumed out and replaced. It definitely worked, and it's much colder now. But when I went to pay they told me that my clutch was about to go, and that I should have it replaced right away. I personally haven't noticed any issues yet while driving it, but I also have a five day road trip coming up and don't want it to go then.
My questions are this:
1) How does the dealer know what shape the clutch is in? Does the computer tell them, or do the feel the clutch pedal, or...?
2) 84,000 kms seems pretty low for a clutch to be worn out at. Anyone have experience with the clutch going in this type of vehicle? Mine's a 2006 Mazda 3 sport.
Thanks.

Park somewhere and pull the e- brake. Put it in 4th gear, step on the gas to about 2700 rpm and let the clutch pedal slowly out. It should kill the engine. If the engine keeps running the clutch slips and is shot.
