Default High Octane 93 Gas for Protege 1.6 ?

A guy at the dealership advised me to every once in a while, to fill my Protege 1.6 DX Auto with High Octane Gas (Premium). He says it helps to prevent Carbon Buildup in EGR Valve. Does this sound right ? Is it bad to use high octane ALL the time ? He said just once about every Oil Change. What do you guys think ?[/align]

Default RE: High Octane 93 Gas for Protege 1.6 ?

i use high octane gas all of the time and i always have. these engines are built at a medium-high compression ratio but they can stand the high compression that a high octane gas gives. i just use it for the mileage difference. i get better mileage out of a tank of gas if i use high octane. i definitely wouldn't recommend using octane boosters on top of that but i do recommend high octane gas. i'm not sure if it will keep the egr from sticking up with gunk but it won't hurt
