Default High light not working.....

The Highlight on My 323 protege 1990 SOHC 1800cc is not working (when push the lever away from the driver), but the momentanea highlight is ok (when pull the lever toward the driver) also the low light is OK. I need to know if it's the mechanical switch problem or maybe it's the electric headlight relay problem. If it's the relay then please let me know where is it located? I have look over the Chilton Mazda manual but can't find it.

Does not look to have one quinto555. There is a headlight relay under the dash but if it was not operating would not have any headlights at all. Contacts for switching between high beam, low beam, and flash-to-pass are all located in the combination switch. If you can fix your IAC valve you might try taking it out and seeing if the contacts have just become dirty or burnt. Red wire out of headlight switch is for low beam, Red w/ White stripe is for high beam.

Thanks babyhuey, in the beginning I though that the switch controling the relay, but I found the wiring diagram and yes, you are right, it will be no light at all if the relay is bad, so the switch is directly controlling the headlights. But the contacts are very clean and looking like new (see foto), also have check the contacts with ohm meter and it's OK, the problem maybe mechanical not electrical, maybe the push/pull lever?? can't find any broken or missing parts yet....... whish to have another switch to compare ....... Thanks babyhuey,

This one takes me 2 days to fix it, have to deassembling the switch 5 times. When test with the contacs switch cover off, it work OK, but with the cover on, sometimes works and sometime don't. This is kind of factory design deffect, the problem is so simple that make me furious. It turn out that the plastic switch cover was interfering with the up and down movement of the contac spring, have to Dremel out some plastic to make room for the contac and it work perfectly now.[:@]

You are a genius quinto555. Maybe you should be in the design industry for this stuff and we would maybe not have so many problems with out cars!!!
