My car Gas consumtios is very high now, and i don't know why? could you please help me.
My car is Mazda Protoge 98 1.5

 

20-22 mpg is about average for this car. 26-28 if it is all highway

 

i recently bought a 95 protege with only 42K miles on it. really was owned by a grandmother who never drove out of town. but it had been sitting up with only 4K miles put on it in last 5 years and had some problems. when i got it cranked it only got 5 mpg (!). cranked and ran rough, and so rich you could smell gas in the exhaust. i first cleaned the egr valve because it stumbled so much at idle and that helped and got mileage up to around 7 mpg. then ultrasonic cleaned the injectors and that upped mileage to around 11 mpg. then replaced the MAF sensor with a salvage yard one that i first cleaned well with CRC MAF cleaner and mileage jumped to around 22 and now runs as smooth as a sewing machine. a sweet ride. so without more information about how your car runs and what mileage it currently get, it's hard to advise. but as you see, various and different things can have effect with MAF the greatest for me. good luck.
