Hey guys, new to this board, looks like a great place! I was just looking for a little help on the evap system. I have a 97 SE (Canadian) with 1.5L. I have the P0455 "large leak" code. I was doing some reading today and apparently the charcoal canister is under the car at the back! I thought that was weird as there is a black canister in the passenger corner of the engine bay against the firewall that i thought was the canister as it goes to the purge valve and then intake. Was it different on different models?

Has anyone had this issue before? Any typical problems? I figure check the lines under the car first.

My 1996 shop manual doesn't list that as a possible code. It is possible that is a canada only code Eh! I have seen many these EVAP system codes get cured by replacing the gascap.

 

hmmm, that's weird. I doubt it would be Canada only, iwonder if i wrote it down right....pretty sure i did as i have seen it in google searches too. What is your code for large leak in the evap system then?

no you have the code right because i I have the exact one wrong with mine. I have an 02 protege lx and the check engine light came on a while back and said it was a small leak then recently came on again with the large leak. People tell me to check the hoses for a hole or something but you say it could just be the gas cap?
