Default Engines in 90-94:SOHC/DOHC Cdn

I was reading the post under new members area about the two types of engines in the 90-94 Pro. I was wondering if the DOHC engine was available in this gen.?and if not could I swap out the heads or do I have to the swap the whole motor. I am located in Ontario and I have not been able to find a DOHC model yet. I really like the look and handling of these cars but I want the DOHC and I am not going to spend 2000$ for a swap in a 1000$ car. Any info would greatly appreciated.

I am going to bump this. From what I understand the JDM engine will fit in the Protege, but with some level of difficulty. Would the DOHC engine from anotherCanadian Protege swap into my Protege much easier? I found this on EBay and it looks alot like my engine. http://cgi.ebay.ca/MAZDA-PROTEGE-91-...QQcmdZViewItemIt says its JDM but I thought the JDM engines were only Turbo.
