Default Does anyone now how to remove the brake rotors and pads on a mazda protege 2000

Ive done them before on 96 ford taurus but i think they might be diffrent on this mazda

Mazpro: if you have done it on the Taurus you can do it on the Protégé.

Buy yourself the Haynes manual so you know the torque values and also read the sticky: The unofficial user's guide ...

does anyone know what what socket size i need to remove the caliper bracket off the brake pads it looks like some kinda torx

auctually from looking at the nut carefully it looks like a standard 12mm nut that can be turned with a socket or box end wrench not a torx

I have a 2000 Protege ES.

If you're doing pads, you should only need to unfasten the bottom caliper bolt and slide the caliper upward to access the pads.

If you're doing pads and rotors you should be able to unbolt the caliper mounting brackets and take the whole assembly off. I think mine were 14mm although I'm not 100% sure.

Something I ran into myself when changing the pads; one side used a standard socket and the other side's caliper bolt had some allen/hex head and needed an allen wrench to remove. I believe that was 7-8mm. Could be something the previous owner did but just a heads up to check both sides before getting too deep into the job. You never know with an older car..

Finished the brake job yesterday changed both front brake pads and rotors there was no torx it was just two 14mm nuts on the caliper pins and 2 17mm nuts holding the caliper bracket. Very easy job.

hi guys once again doing a brake job due to my rotors wrapping i guess from when my cv axle leaking and the grease getting on the driver side rotor without noticing it for at least a couple of 2000 miles since the cv axle repair, i changed my rotors successfully greased caliper pins but my new brake pads seem to have a problem

in the pic the middle hole in the inner brakes the hole has a different shape/ size then the others is this ok or should i get a replacement?

nevermind changed brake pads and thay are all the same shape now
