Default Disc Brake Hardware.. WTF?

Guys - I've been searching for disc brake hardware that will fit my 00 Protege 1.8L..

Last time I changed the pads I bought some hardware from autozone. Didn't fit; too small. Left the old hardware on.

Old harware is staring to scratch my new rotors. Ordered some Raybestos hardware from amazon that said will fit my model. Nope, too big.

Wtf? Both times I've ordered hardware for the 1.8L Protege and both times it did not match the clips that are on there.

Anyone ever have this problem? Is there something about this year's brake setup that I don't know about?

You could try a dealer i guess. Possibly if you bought it used someone upgraded the calipers or got them from a wrecking yard. If you can post pics we might sort it out.

Another option is to pull the old hardware from your car and take them to a local parts store to compare.

Thanks guys. I don't own a second vehicle so it's tough for me to be able to take the old clips to the auto parts store.

I understand it's possible the caliper may not be OE -- but how do I get 3 separate hardware kits, all for the same year/model/trim, and all 3 are different sizes?

I've even considered buying a new pair of calipers just so I know what's in there. I'll try and snap some photos next time I have a chance to take them off. For now I've been living with the horrible screeching and grinding. So long new rotors..
