it is possible. this engine is a non interference engine. the cams could go one way and the crankshaft the other and no damage will happen. six teeth is a lot of degrees in timing. check your tensioner spring. that little thing will get damaged if you follow the book instructions on how to set the belt tension. note, your link took me nowhere.

spring on tensioner is ok and connected. belt cover was damaged and a piece was missing from the middle. Lots of nuts fell out (chipmunks or mice). Could be the cause for a jump in timing?

Problem solved. timing was off on both cams by 6 teeth. My guess would be based on the hole in the timing belt cover a chipmunk was putting beech nuts into the belt area and the nuts caused the belt to jump. 2002 Protege 2.0 is not an interference engine.
