Default check this out! excessive fuel consumption

our 2001 2.0L is now using excessive amounts of gas. about 16 miles per quarter tank... YEAH! I have had everything checked, no problems found. little bit of ruff idling but nothing excessive. just short of ripping out the injectors and having them tested. Has anyone else had a simular problem and what kind fix did it take......

Here is what you need to do:

1) Go fill up your car.

2) Reset your trip odometer (if not so equipped, write down your current mileage).

3) Drive until the gauge is indicating you are low, then refill.

4) Divide your current trip odometer reading (or the difference between current mileage and mileage at last fill) by how many gallons you put in the thing.

5) Come back and tell us the result of the above math, which should indicate your actual MPG for that tank of fuel. Someone should be able to give you some insight then.

normally we would get about 18-22 per gallon but since she had an emergency and opened it up, it has gotten worse. we filled it up and drive it around in town for 16 miles ( according to the mil-o-meter) and looked at the gas gauge and we used a quarter of a tank. we havent drove it since but do not see any leaks, smell any gas, no smoke, no engine flooding, etc... i looked at injector web pages and we have some of the symtoms that they suggest. we will try your suggestion first. thanks

If the case was the 16 miles, you would get approx 4 MPG. There is no way this engine can use this much gas and run, especially with no smoke from running rich.
