Default Check engine light

I have a manual 03 Protege ES with 82K miles. Other than the battery cables occasionally loosening, I have never had a problem. The check engine light came on today. All fluids are full, the oil fresh, and the gas cap is secure. What are some other possible causes for the light coming on?

Take it to a shop & have the code or codes pulled. Anything could have triggered the CEL. It will be hard for anyone to help.

Thanks but the light went off after driving around a little after refilling the coolant bottle.

same thing happened to me, at the dealership they said it was a problem and was under warranty still. I think they replaced something with the EKG? I don't remember exactly. Engine light is back on now, so either they didn't install it correct or I have other problems.

can get codes off car that throw the CEL at auto zone or the like. the codes will tell you what's going on under the hood. get the codes and get back to us .we can not help if we don't know what codes. they will be in a PXXX format.
