Default 99 Protege 1.6L engine swap to older 1.8L turbo

Hi new here. Been doing a little digging but haven't found much info on this swap. I have a 99 protege, 1.6L 5 spd. The engine is high mileage and has a significant oil leak from crank. Like this car but the motor is gutless so was considering swapping to a used Mazda motor with a little more pep instead of just repairing the oil leak. Found a complete 95 Mazda 323 GTX 1.8L turbo JDM engine locally for reasonable price. Is it remotely compatible? Am I looking at significant wiring changes to make it all work? Not opposed to making it a winter project and have decent mechanical skills and patience (used to be a chopper mechanic). Ultimately I don't want to turn this $1500 car into a money pit but I am interested in the project if its reasonably doable. Thank you
