Sooo. I've had this car for a couple months and its already been a headache
And now I'm having trouble with 1st gear.
Its a manual. When I'm at a complete stop, I put it into 1st gear and it crunches and grinds. Sounds like sprockets spinning against whatever is supposed to lock into it. I'm a decent mechanic but in the dark about tranny's.
It doesn't always do this. Its about half the time. It does leak power steering fluid which I believe is shared with the tranny. But it does this whether the fluid is low or topped off. It only does it in 1st. If I downshift into 1st while moving I have no problems its only giving trouble from a complete stop.
I'm reluctant to put any more $$ into this car. It has 165k miles on it but it runs strong on the highway and has been otherwise reliable. Not even sure I could fix it even if I knew what it was. Transmission work is a mystery I've never tried to solve. But I'll take any advice I can get
