97 Protege Clutch Problems?
Hi all,
I have a 97 protege LX, with a 5 speed MT. Now I really know nothing about MT. My problem is the car seems very sensitive to the gas pedal. It will drive just fine but if you hit the gas just a little to much the RPM will shoot up. Whats wrong? Is it the clutch? What can I do to fix this?
Thanks!

Also have one other question. The A/C hasn't worked since we bought it, about 4 years ago. The Compressor is locked up, and the system is still charged. I am planning on replace the compressor with one from a junk yard. the questions is i know that on most cars if not all, somewhere in the lines there is a screen that is supposed to catch metal shavings. Where is that located? is it accessible or do i just have to replace the line? Thanks

Sounds like the clutch. As far as the A/C I wouldn't replace the compressor with a junk yard part, I've done thus only to end up back at square one. It's waste of money, Look for a recon compressor. Don't forget to flush the lines, replace the dryer and orifice tube thats where your a majority of the metal shavings will be.

For the A/C Could it just be the clutch that is bad? since it is the clutch that is frozen? I know it is frozen because if you have a belt around it the belt starts smoking and the clutch does not turn. If it is just the clutch anyone know if it is possible to replace the clutch on the A/C while the compressor is still on the car? It would be nice not to have to evac the lines and put new R31 in.

If it where me I would evac the system and change the compressor and switch it to r134. It's possible to buy a new clutch kit for your compressor but why would you rebuild a R12 compressor that hasn't worked in 4 years? If you have a problem later down the road your going to have to convert it away, plus you probally have contamination in your system aswell.
