I own a 93 Protege with over 110k on it with automatic transmission. I am having a very difficult issue for me to deal with.
The car while in Park or Neutral seems to be okay and when I rev it up it shows no problem, but soon as I put the car on Drive it coughs up like it is going to stall until I give it more gas and it goes then starts to cough up again. But it seems to happen only on drive. I came from work today and it almost stalled at a red light and when accelerating it spurted until it caught power. Anyway, it is on and off and on and off as I drive.
When I got home I put it on Park, and then shifted to Drive again and it lost power until it stalled.

A friend said it could be the transmission. So I go the transmission fluid changed for no avail.

Sounds more like a problem with the engine shifting position as you rev or accel in forward gears. Is the problem still evident when in reverse gear or only in drive or forward gears?
