Default 2000 RPM at cold start, is it normal ???

When I'm starting the vehicle in the morning, my engine is running at 2000 rpm for a 10 seconds or so, and then goes to 1500 .. 1000 is it normal ?
outside temperature is between 12c - 25c , someone told me that it's ok for the cold start but i think 2000 its unusual what can be the problem?
thanks.

As far as I know, it is normal. Especailly at that temp. As long as its not more than 2000 rpm and not for too long. If the rpms go to the norm after a minute or so. You're OK. My 96 does that too.

yes thats normal your car's computer will set the idler to whatever will warm the car up to preform the best if its retarded cold out it might even pass 2000 and it will stay up in the 2000 as long as it needs to, so the car will warm up every car ever made does it.

I agree.... normal. My 3 does it too when it's that cold out, but it is a little unnerving when you're used to a lower start up rpm.
In part that is done to help the pre-cat and cat (catalytic converter) get up to temp faster. After all, cats don't work right unless they are hot.
