Default Flashing security warning light - normal or not?

I've had my Mazda5 for two weeks and I just noticed that the Security Warning Light flashes every couple of seconds when the key is not in and the car is just sitting there. I have not noticed this before, although my husband thinks that it has been doing that since day 1. Is this normal for it to do so?

Well if you've got a problem, so have we - ours does it too.

It took me about 3 or 4 months to notice this, and then I thought I'd got (another) problem to discuss with Mazda UK, Eventually I convinced myself it's a security feature!

When i read the useless mazda 5 handbook i can remember it said that the key/security light flashes to indicate the immobiliser/security is working and on.
