I got a new remote for my 1998 mazda protege LX. I can't find anywhere instructions to program it. Does anybody know?

I don't think that 98 model offered keyless but here is instructions for 99.

Start with all doors closed and then remove key from ignition.
Open drivers side door.
Insert key back into ignition and then turn key from Lock to Run position three times.
Remove ignition key.
Close and then open drivers door three times.
Power locks will lock and then unlock telling you that you are in programming mode.
Push any button on first transmitter two time.
Doors should again lock and unlock telling you that the programming was accepted.
Repeat last two steps for any additional remotes.
If only have one remote then program it three times.
If only have two remotes then program one of them twice.
When the third remote is programmed then the doors will again lock and unlock automaticaly telling you that programming was successful and is ended.

 

Charvet7...I also own a '98 Protege and am looking into buying replacement remotes.

Have you had any luck locating programming instructions?

Never received anything back from vehicle stating is was in programming mode. (lock and unlock)

was just told from someone on ebay selling remotes and programs that the 98 programming is different from the 99 programming.

if anyone comes across the 98 programming, i could use the help

i am having the same problem with programming on my 03. the car does not lock and unlock to tell you that it is in program mode. it does not make sense, but the instructions are correct because they came straight from the service manual. oh well, who knows?
