I recently purchased a 97 Protege with a 5 spd from some friends of mine. I have been very pleased with it but one concern. It has 129K miles, the previous owner had to have a rebuilt trans installed at some point. It works fine but there seems to be no stop or mechanism to prevent a 5th to reverse shift. Is this normal for the car or did the re-builder leave off something? I am concerned about this I have already almost made that shift twice.
