Default fitting a 5spd to a 929!? PLEASE HELP

hey
i have put a MA 2.0ltr motor into my 1974 929.
i also got a 5spd out of a 626 for it!
the problem i have is that the 5spd is longer then the 4spd.
the transmaission crossmember is about 3 cms away from lining up with the holes and the tailshaft is about 20cm too long.
i know i can get a tailshaft to fit it (according to the wreckers) but they seem to think i will need to get my crossmember modified.
i am hoping someone has done this and there is another crossmember out of a different car i can use!
thanks
the crossmember which was on the 5spd was from a 626, it doesnt fit..
