Default 1993 Protege control module & overheating issues

My 1993 Protege overheated last night. I had it towed to Sears Auto Center. They said "there's no power to the radiator". "We don't do electrical work". Huh? What is electrical in the cooling system? Earlier in the day, I replace the battery because AAA said it wouldn't hold a charge. New battery in - it still won't start. Then I noticed a black part, with male computer type contacts, hanging out of the control module under the dash. I plugged it back in and it starts right up. I started to drive it and it overheated after 10 miles. I'm wondering if there's a connection between the module and the overheating. Any thoughts?
