Default Fan and Fan Control Module

I've got a 2003 Mazda6 I bought in March of '03 (an early adopter - it took 2 months before I saw another one on the road). The fan never ran after the car shut off until January of 2005. Then the fan ran at variable speeds after the car shut off for up to a minute. I took it in, the fan control module was replaced as a part of the recall. The fan worked as expected after that, i.e., not running at all after the car shut off. Last month it started again. I took it in and now they're telling me it's normal for the fan to run after the car shuts off. I'm not sure I'm buying that since it stopped after the fan control module was replaced the first time. Anyone have the same issue?

Also had a very hard to find oil leak fixed uner warranty...turned out to be the oil pan gasket. Other than those 2 things, I'm loving my 6!

I've had a very similar situation... My 6 used to have the fan run for at least a minute after the car was turned off, also at variable speeds. It stopped for a while and now it's been starting up again with the same problem. I'm wondering if I should take it in! Any advice?

Jaybird I would def. take it in. 6Guy, I would possibly try to get a second opinion. Are there any other mazda dealerships in your area?

There have been a lot of problems with the fan control module on the earlier 2003 and 2004 6's. So many in fact that Mazda has an SSP 60 (not a recall) that has been out since mid 04 to replace the module. Problems vary but most common seemed to have been fan running at variable speeds as if it had a mind of its own. If your 6 was built between 10-2-2002 and 9-30-2003 it should qualify for automatic replacement.

I also have this problem on my 2004 Mazda 6. I bought this one in January of 2004. It didn't start doing it until just after the warranty expired at 50k. Is this something that would be covered after the warranty has expired? I have about 59k on it now.

that would not be covered under the warranty you had before because that had expired. you can only replace certain parts while under the warranty. unless there is a racall for the fan control module, which there isn't that i am aware of, then you are going to have to dish out a little money for a new one or you can stick it out and just try to get along with your one you have now.
