Hi I am fixing this car for a friend, it is a 1993 MX-3 with 244,000 miles on it, has the 1.6L 4 cylinder and its automatic.

The trans slips really badly in 1st and 2nd and has a really bad leak.

Will the auto trans out of any other mazda/ford vehicles work in this car??

Also what would cause the trans to slip in 1st and 2nd but not in 3rd or 4th??

When you go to accelerate from a stop it slips and as its shifting to 2nd it slips but 3rd and 4th are perfect???

 

Sounds like the forward clutch plates are worn and 2nd gear brake band needs adjustment. You can get to those without pulling the tranny by pulling the pump and gut the trans from there.

 

Ok I was just worried I would need either a shop press or other special tools to rebuild the trans. I suppose i should pull the pump as you suggested and inspect the clutch plates and the band.

Where is a good place to get auto trans parts from??
