4speed Auto tranny To 5speed Auto ?
Hello everyone
I just bought a 2006 mazda5 with 97k on it.
I have read that the 2008 got upgraded to a 5 speed auto tranny.
Will the 5 speed auto out of a 2008 work in my 2006.
It would be nice to have that extra gear and most likey save money highway cruzing to.

If the engine is the same then it should fit but the cost to replace your computer, tranny, CV axles and possibly the front hubs/brakes makes it not worth the savings in fuel you would save, your talking thousands just to change your transmission. Best way to save fuel is to drive on the highway/freeway at 50-55mph that is where the majority of cars get the best mileage, my truck gets its best at 45-50.

at least wait til your tranny goes. I guess your planning ahead, sorry, couldn't resist!

A 4 cylinder is suppose to rev a bit higher than 6 cylinder, it's the nature of the beast.

Almost all 4 cylinders get their best fuel economy at around 3K cruising, my 3 hates being under 2500rpms and guzzles fuel, above 4500 and it also guzzles fuel. The more low end power or torque you have the lower your cruising RPM can be due to there being sufficient power at that RPM to move the vehicle. Most 4 cylinders today have peaky high strung HP and torque curves so higher RPMs are better in their case.
