Mazda MX-6 cuts out after about a minute...please help
I bought a 1995 mazda mx-6 in January, $2500, 100,000 miles and its been going fine up until now. I start the engine, and it immediately starts stuttering / choking, and after about a minute it will just cut out completely. Happens each time i start the engine. I can just about drive it before it cuts out and as long the gas is down, its fine, but when i come to a stop, it will begin to stutter again and most of the time will cut out. There is also a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust.
Does anyone know what the problem might be or what i should check out / replace before taking to a mechanic? The previous owner said the transmission might need replacing and the O/D light used to keep flashing on the dashboard. The only thing i've done to the car is change the oil.
Thanks
Black smoke indicates excessive fuel, blue smoke would be oil.
I'd check your fuel pressure and your injectors.
If I understand correctly, at idle it wants to die, once you're up to speed and on the gas you're OK?
