88 MX-6 idle problem...

Default 88 MX-6 idle problem...

i had it checked out by one of my vw techs i work with and he said it was the idle air control valve. doe sanyone have any info on maybe cleaning it???? if not does anyone have any suggestions on where to get one that doesnt cost an arm and a leg???

They call it a bypass aircontrol valve or BAC, I diagnose them with a hammer myself. Turn the a/c on and tap it with a hammer if it is idling low. If the idle picks up it is sticking. You can remove it and clean it. The actual electric motor is a bit trickier but can be cleaned also. They are very pricey.

You could probably pick one up at a u pullit wrecking yard for cheap, but I would clean it too. I suggest the same thing that hixx did. Clean the one you have it it does pickup after the hammer test. Then try it again. If it still does it try the wrecking yard one. ( get a couple if you can) They will stick from sitting for long periods of time. They are way pricey new. Good luck.
