Default MPV Drum Screws

I have a 2000 MPV. The brakes go down quite a bit before any stopping occurs. I was wondering if the braked shoes are out of adjustment.

So I took the real wheels off and saw two screws in the drum. I couldn't make sense of those screws. Are those two screws holding the drum to something or are those used to push out the drum? I tried turning the screws both ways without any luck. I even tried using a power screw driver and they wouldn't budge.

What else can I do to get the drum out?
