Default Engine Light Probem

I have a Mazda MPV ES (2004) w/ 18,892 miles and recently did a oil change (including oil filter replacement) on the vehicle about 2 days ago. Looked in the owners manual and poured 6 qts of oil accordingly. To top things off, I checked and removed/resitted the air filter The vehicle was driven today to work and after a while, I dont remember when, the engine light came on. Driving conditions were mainly city like driving (stop n go). I checked the engine oil level an hour ago, took out and resitted the air filter, resitted the engine oil cap, fuel door cap but the problem still persists. Is there really a problem with the car given its low milleage or is the light programed to comeon at my miliege interval? Is there a way I can reset the "check engine light?" Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check around the area of the air cleaner to make sure that a connector or vacuum line was not knocked loose. There is a short vaccum line that runs between a solenoid on the backside of the air cleaner housing to the EGR valve on the engine that might be causing the CEL to come on if it was dislodged when checking air filter. You can clear the code and CEL by simply disconnecting the negative battery cable for a minute or two. If light returns then get code number checked at Autozone or other parts store that does this as a free service. Let know what the code number is and can probably determine what has happened.

Well, I havent taken it in yet to get the codes checked, but internestly enough, the van has begunto sputters when its idle (like at a traffic light) or when accelearing (same story as the other posts in this forum). The van only has a 19455 miles, so I'm guessing the problem should be covered under warranty. I will be contacting mazda customer support about the problem this monday and perhaps try to schedule an appointment with a local dealership sometime next week. Thanks for your help. Will check the hoses near the airfilter for abnormalties later today.
