1996 mpv efini starting problems
Hi guys,
2.5td 96 Mazda mpv efini here!
wondering if anyone has seen or experienced this before?
when starting from cold in the morning the car turns over and over and until I pump the gas (diesel) pedal it doesn’t start. Upon which there’s usually smoke coming out the back.
I have had it into a mechanic and he’s suggesting it may be the glow plugs have had their day and are needing replacing - however his opinion is it could be a precarious job as the plugs may be hard to get out
I’m no mechanic but his theory doesn’t make sense to me really as surely if the plugs weren’t heating up enough pumping the gas pedal wouldn’t help them with igniting even more fuel?
it may be worth mentioning that this car had been sat up for a good 18months being started periodically.
also maybe worth mentioning that once the vehicle has started it normally runs perfectly for the remainder of the day including starting very well.
any / all opinions and advice welcomed
I read about the other mpv club forum that seemingly no longer exists which is sad.
cheers
RLander.
