89 MPV V6 RWD(150k milage,) died on me yesterday 100 miles from home. Started losing power on the freeway, felt as if the car was suddenly pulling a huge dead weight. Pulled over to the slow lane and punched the gas pedal a few times, it downshifted and reved high but still didn't want to go. Then the engine cut out alltogether, and wouldn't restart(cranks but doesn't start.) I know it is not the timing belt, as I removed the dist, cap and the rotor turns(plus I just replaced it 3 months ago.) I am getting spark at the plugs. Bypassed the fuel pump jumper and the pump is working. Can anyone offer some suggestions?
