Default Millenia Keyless Entry Remotes & Programming Instructions

What does your local dealer charge for Mazda keyless entry remotes?

My Mazda dealer wants $129 a piece plus $35 for programming for each of my cars (98 Millenia, 01 Miata).

I'm curious to see what other dealerships are charging for new remotes and programming.

I'm done with ebay because the listings show new remotes, and 3 out of 3 times I've won - I end up with junk that doesn't work and won't program. First one was superglued together and cracked. Can't check the battery if you can't even open it. Second one was completely corroded inside from water and didn't work. The 3rd one only 1 button worked and it looked like someone tried to superglue the circuit board pieces back together. Each one was advertised as new, or like new and they obviously weren't anywhere close to that. The Keyles Ride site is run by one of those same lying ebay sellers, so thats off the list too.

What does your local dealership charge? I bet there's some that want even more than what mine is charging.

here's what worked for me. we have a coupla 99's. your MY might be different:

Step 1: Open the driver's side door, and then press the LOCK button (on the door)
so ALL the doors lock and the security light comes on.

Step 2: Unlock the drivers side door by turning up the Un-Lock switch manually
(the one on the door that has the RED Spot on it) for the DRIVER's DOOR ONLY on
the door so the security light now turns off. You'll sound off the Alarm if you don't
(TRUST ME ROFL)

Step 3: Insert your key in the ignition and turn it to ACC position, and then take
out the key. Repeat this two times. (remember to take the key completely out!)
For a total of THREE times.

Step 4: Press the Door Switch THREE times. This switch is located on the door jam.
(BE SURE THE DOME OR DOOR COURTISY LIGHT GOES OUT WITH EACH
DEPRESSION OF THE SWITCH) The car should now beep once.

Step 5: Press any button on the remote twice. The car should beep once again.

Step 6: Repeat STEP 5 on each remote till ALL the remotes you have/want
programed.

Step 7: Wait about 5 seconds and then the car should beep four times.

Step 8: Press the Un-Lock button (on the door) and NOW your remote is
programmed!

Good idea keninn posting a procedure for keyless programming. It is very easy to do and can save you some $$$. I do not charge anything at our shop for programming as it is fairly simple and I figure they probably paid enough for the remotes!! The programming you described will work for 1995-2000 millenia. Will post the procedure I use on upper picture and procedure for 2001-2002 on lower picture.

I found another site online that I'm willing to give a shot - www.ThePartsYouNeed.com

The other KR site wants about $120 a piece with shipping for the 98 Millenia remote. (basically dealer price)

They're about 1/3 that price on ThePartsYouNeed site with the instructions included. I ordered 1 this morning.

https://www.thepartsyouneed.com/disp...?productId=596

I'll keep you guys posted. If it works good, I'm going to order one for my Miata as well.

I got my remote from ThePartsYouNeed.com in the mail ta few weeks ago. (forgot to update)

Programming was easy, took about 10 seconds. I can't believe a dealership would charge 1/2 hour of labor for a 10 second job. Thats a good way to lose customers.

Anyhow, the remote works great and when I went to put in an order for remote for the Miata I noticed I got free shipping, so I bought a 2nd remote for the Millenia and a pair for the Miata. FINALLY I will have remotes that work and that I can use.

ThePartsYouNeed.com rocks!

It is a shame that they would charge that amount to program alone. How is the remote that you got for you Mill and Miata? Do they look to be new product or used? That is a heck of a good price with instructions included. The site did not show the fob with a Mazda emblem so am just wondering if they are using new product without the emblem (works just as good!! ).

I ordered a new fob for my 2001 Mellinia S. I wanted a second fob.
I programmed the new one and it worked fine, but now the original one wont work, so I programmed the original and it worked, but the new ordered one wont work.
How do I get both to work for this car ?
