Default check engine light

Check engine light came on again. Mechanic says that nothing is wrong with the car, just getting a false reading from the computer. he was able to bypasss the computer and test the vacuum on the egr on a dyno, everything is working fine. When computer hooked up, get the check engine light. Any solutions other than a $1000 replacement for the part?

I would even love to disable the check engine light.

2000 Millenia, 75,000. Car runs great.

yo, this is a 2000my car, it is obd2. your "mechanic" is full of ****. the ce lite is on for a reason. if your "mechanic" is unable to figger out why, you need to take the car to a shop that can properly diagnose, and/or has the proper equipment needed to diagnose. obviously, he is in WAY over his head.

I have the same problem. But my mechanic and I have figured out this. There is a TSB on the computer itself. If i use Vpower gas from shell I get great milage and the car runs good for awhile. But the carbon build up on the backside of the throttle body gets really bad. The EGR valve returns get caked and sends a missfire error. If I use Mid grade or Lower grade I get a ping (almost like there is water in the gas) When the engine light comes on the car is running a little funny but not bad enough to worry. I have gone back to Vpower because of the gas mileage. I am getting a new car next week so I will not have to worry about it for much longer. Good luck with it.

You need to read the codes before you can start figuring out what is going on! Take it to autozone or somewhere similar, and it is free!
