hey milly fans, my 1999 S just threw me a giant curve ball. Out driving today at normal pace, all of a sudden loud popping noise from engine, CEL flashing wildly, i pull over to investigate. It sounds as though there is either an intake or exhaust leak from somewhere around the top of the rear bank of cylinders. I'm thinking egr valve, but no air seems to be escaping from it... Then i start thinking supercharger? It lacks power from low end accelleration upwards. The noise is loud! I put a long screwdriver on the engine in various places to perform the lowbuck stethoscope trick, the engine sounds quiet in all places except on the supercharger, which seems to have a tapping noise, but that could be the screws making their noise? anyone have this happen to them? is there any way of checking the codes without a scanner? the old flashing light way? I'm worried my motor is screwed! And after religious 5000 kilometer syntethic oil changes.
