I know it is shift solenoid b, but i cant seem to find this part on line. is it called something else? and can anyone PLEASE tell me how hard it is to install and where its located? my tranny seems to be running fine, but id like to switch it out as soon as i can find the part. much thanks for any help i can get.

 

have you changed/flushed the trans fluid lately? i would start there, and add at least a bottle of lubegard, maybe 2

 

thanks keninn, I just purchased this car last friday. I checked the trans fluid and it doesn't smell, it looks clear as glass. The car has been well taken care of from the older couple I bought it from. However, I will try that flush with the lubeguard, but is that a temp fix? Or does that actually fix it for good? It's the only thing wrong with this car and the only code that came up was p0755, so I'd like it to just be fixed for good.

 

clear or red? and the lubegard is permanent. the solenoid sticks, the lubegard unsticks. but it takes time. erase the code and see if it returns

erased the code yesterday and the CE just popped on again with flashing hold, got an appointment for the flush on friday, man I hope it works. If not, is it a nightmare to change out? Also, just out of curiosity, is this even a real part? Can't believe I googled it and came up with nothing, guy at checkers couldn't find it, autopartswarehouse.com never heard of it.... Is it some kind of ghost mystery part? I'd like to track it down just in case so I at least know the price.

 

of course it's a real part. you just didnt ask a real mazda partsperson. places like checkers and autopartswarehouse.com have info that compared to a mazda dealer is like comparing a comic book to war and peace. that solenoid lives in the valve body

 

you said "it takes time", how long til I know it worked or not? Is it the more lubeguard the better? Also, do you think it's safe to drive until I get the flush? I don't know much about automatic transmissions (obviously), thanks again for your patience.

 

i wouldnt get a flush if your fluid looks new, and dont smell burnt. i would just throw in a bottle of the lubegard, and within 100 miles, you might feel a difference. it probably will take a bit longer to see if it fixes(unsticks) it. before adding, you should make sure the level is correct. drive car till it is hot, park on a level surface, leave engine running, and check level with dipstick. this is really hard to see, because the fluid will splash all over, and the fluid is really thin. have a really good clean cloth/towel to keep wiping the fluid, and eventually, you will be able to see the level. the car on a level surface is critical to this. after at least a couple hundred miles, maybe 500 max, if it dont unstick it, probably have to change it. neglected trans fluid is a major cause of trans failure. i flush trans fluid yearly, and i like the valvoline dex/merc hi mileage. it is full synthetic, and walmart has the best price at 3.67/qt. draining is a mess, so i have a mityvac extractor that works excellent
