Was coming home from work today and noticed the CEL was on... Had AutoZone pull the code for me... 1455... lady there said it will cause me to be stranded if I dont fix it fast, yet all I can find on it is replacing a fuel sender or the entire tank... Is there a workaround for this? Car has 85K miles and has never done this before (owned since new) never noticed a fuel level indicator not working right, have noticed that the low fuel light comes on earlier on occasion, but nothing regularly...

Please advise...

 

Leave you stranded??? I think not. Is just a problem with the fuel sender and will not cause any other problems for you. Take a read of the TSB from Mazda on the code at link below. Not serious at all.

ok, here's another question. i see 1.6 hrs to r&r the fuel tank. looks to me like that means drop the tank, right? can it really be done in 1.6 hrs? i dont see any way of getting to the sending unit unless the tank is dropped.

on another note, i am continually amazed at how many people believe autozone parts people instead of the dealer. i guess they think that after parts people leave the dealership, they go to autozone?

 

1.6 hrs is Mazda warranty repair time to actually not just remove but to replace the tank. Warranty timeis usually 1/3 to 1/2 less than regular time out of Mitchell in which a customer would be paying out of pocket. Welcome to my world kennin.
