I'm repairing a wrecked 2004 MX5 Mazdaspeed and have to replace the seatbelts since they fired on impact and are jammed now. Horrible design imho but I have tried to find a set on ebay with no luck. Everyone is selling a universal replacement but I think the electronic powder activated ratchet is not part of the universal design. That would mean defeating the SRS warning system since the seatbelt actuator wires would have no where to plug in. I want to fix this right but don't want to mortgage the house. I already laid out $1100 for the air bags. Any ideas where to buy the seat belts?

 

What you are looking for is the seatbelt with the pyrotechnic pre-tensioner.

It cinches up the seatbelt in an impact to prevent you from impacting the steering wheel/Inst panel. I think they are a great design.

I have no idea other than the dealer to purchase that part.

I personally feel all safety systems (airbags/seatbelts) should be replaced with factory original parts.
