Mazda Miata 1997 Needs Clutch?
Hey,
I have a 1997 Mazda Miata, 90,000 miles.
I had a shop change my hydraulic system out for the clutch and I think it got a hot pot on it. "Don't know how." Since then I have noticed the clutch slipping. Now it is to the point where it begins to grind when switching gears unless I match rpms w/ transmission. Sometimes when I put it into gear I get a squealing noise too. Transmission seams to be in perfect condition though.
With that said, I believe it is time for a new clutch and while I am at it I would like to switch over to a lighter fly wheel. Does anyone have any recommendations? I like to drive my car and would also like to autocross again. I am in college so money is lacking. Is there anything I can get that is a stage 1 or 2 that is around the $200-$400 range, including the fly wheel? I don't know what I am doing, so I would have to have a shop install everything for me still.
Any help you can suggest would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Jared

Slipping would be clutch wear but grinding going into gear is generally a hydraulic problem, though a pilot bearing locking up could cause grinding it would be noisey. Maybe recheck the hydraulics and pedal freeplay adjustment.
