1997 New York Mpv oldie just got it and it needs help!
Hi everybody
My granddad just bought a new car and gave me his 1997 Mazda mpv
It doesnt start at the moment and im trying to figure out what could be wrong
The car was owned by my grand dad for over 5 years and was elderly maintained
Even though im not a mechanic i do have some skills and wanted to know if i could get some help here in diagnosing the no start condition and
fixing it myself
Any takers?

How many miles?
Spark plugs ever changed?
PCV ever changed?
Sounds like battery----is it turning over?
Check fluid in automatic tranny. If it's dark and smells burnt, BURN IT! (maybe get professional help from tranny shop on this one----wouldn't want you to spend money on other things for nothing).

The mpv has about 143 ooo miles on it
My grand dad has owned since 99k miles
The pcv valce was also changed at the same time the sparkplugs were
spark plugs were changedless than 5000 miles ago
The battery is less than a year old
The mpv turns over and cranks very strongly
The transmission fluid is red, and has never had a problem when it was runiing has never slipped in any gears while driving ir has not had any problems while driving'The problem appears to be in getting it started

Could be many things. A Crank position sensor.
Check for vaccuum leaks.

Other probabilities: EGR Valve stuck open.
Try cleaning MAF sensor and throttle body. Cheap to do> Rough Idling Issues |*MotorWeek Disconnect negative terminal on battery before doing (no need for an assistant). make sure both are dry before starting.
Fuel Pump or regulator.
Clogged or leaky fuel lines. Put some fuel system cleaner in it (need to get it going first! DUH!).
Leaky or clogged injectors.
Check for vaccuum leaks.

I'm surprised you didn't read this yesterday, I posted your thread and this 2.3 thread within 10 minutes. Just because it's a different vehicle, doesn't mean they have that different problems.
