engine code P0402

I have a 99 Miata. The check engine light came one, checked it with ODBII instrument. Code was P0402, EGR gasses excessive.
Does any one know exactly what I should check for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: engine code P0402

Remove the throttlebody and EGR valve and clean the ports. Excessive flow and low flow are actually the same problem,clogged EGR ports.
